A solar farm at Raywood in central Victoria is the latest to catch fire.

Country Fire Authority units from Bridgewater, Campbells Forest, Eaglehawk, Golden Square, Raywood and Woodvale attended the McQualters Rd fire late on Thursday along with Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police and Powercor.

A transformer caught fire on a moderately sized commercial solar farm and crews used foam to extinguish it.

A warning was issued to the Raywood community because of the black toxic smoke drifting over the town.

The fire was brought under control at about 8.30pm and Energy Safe Victoria is investigating the cause.

In late 2023, a solar farm near Cohuna stopped operating due to a grassfire and remains out of action.

ESV ordered the 34MW Cohuna Solar Farm at Horfield to cease generating power with initial investigations into the November 20 fire raising concerns about “specific equipment” used at the solar farm.
