‘To infinity and beyond’: Richmond whip out their glad rags for Mad Monday celebrations

The Tigers have opted for hysterical character costumes to mark Mad Monday celebrations, with the Richmond Skipper favouring a Toy Story theme.

They finished the 2024 season at the bottom of the ladder, but that didn’t stop Tigers stars Toby Nankervis and Noah Balta dressing up as Toy Story characters for Mad Monday celebrations.

With Richmond captain Nankervis dressed as space ranger Buzz Lightyear and defender Balta as cowboy Woody, the duo’s triumphant catchcry “To infinity and beyond” was probably a stretch given their disappointing year.

Perhaps a gentler Toy Story motto was in order: “You’ve got a friend in me”.

Other Tigers stars Tom Lynch, Tim Taranto, Hugo Ralphsmith, Samson Ryan and Kamdyn McIntosh were spotted at the celebrations at the Rising Sun Hotel in Richmond.

Ryan was dressed as Patrick Starfish from SpongeBob SquarePants.

McIntosh went deep with his character choice, and emerged as Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Celebrations were described as “fun” and “low key.”

As the Tiges prepare for time away, or watching the finals from the sidelines, another Toy Story quote might suit their 2025 campaign: “Reach for the sky!”
