Whether it’s romantic love or platonic love for besties and family, Taylor has probably written about it. And for Swifties, the words never fail to resonate. Although romance is a massive part of Taylor’s lyrics, she’s also nailed the ups and downs of her friendships. Tay Tay and her squad have made headlines around the world – people have come and gone over the years, but her inner circle remains strong. From her teenage school friend Abigail Anderson Berard to stalwarts such as Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid, and newer faces such as Brittany Mahomes and Todrick Hall, all play a vital role in Taylor’s life and work. Her besties are there when the social media crazies get too loud; and in return, they shout out for the support she offers them – such as Ed Sheeran who expressed his gratitude: “I have long, long, long conversations with Taylor about stuff just because I feel like she’s one of the only people that actually truly understands where I’m at.” More local friends include Vance Joy, who supported Taylor on her 1989 world tour eight years ago, along with fellow Melbourne star Troye Sivan, and model Andreja Pejic who joined Taylor on stage during one of her 1989 concerts. Taylor has also been supported by singer Lorde and other Aussies, Ruby Rose and Nicole Kidman. Long may the bonds last.
Beyoncé
The singer made a surprise visit to the Eras Tour film premiere. In an Instagram post after the event in LA, Taylor wrote: “I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce’s influence.”
“The way she’s taught me and every artist out here to break rules and defy industry norms. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility. She’s been a guiding light throughout my career and the fact that she showed up tonight was like an actual fairytale.”
In September, Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles showed support for Taylor on social media, praising her along with her daughter for their tours’ ability to “stimulate the economy”.
“Just being young women and being able to say this, is so awesome!” Tina wrote. “Proud of them both!”
Todrick Hall
The performer, singer, actor and RuPaul Drag Race judge and choreographer first became friends with Taylor in 2015, after creating a mash-up of her songs. He featured as a back-up dancer in Look What You Made Me Do and appeared in and was co-executive producer of the video for You Need To Calm Down.
Ice Spice
This friendship has surprised many but it’s also inspired many. It’s marked by mutual respect, support, and admiration. The Dominican rapper saw “Miss Americana,” a revealing documentary in which Taylor embraces her role as a songwriter and performer.
“What I took away from Taylor’s documentary is you really do need to work hard, and not everything is going to be as easy as it seems,” Ice Spice told Variety. “My manager heard me talking about that and had reached out to her team, and then they had a song for me.” The duo collaborated and released their first song together – a remix of Karma which was accompanied by a music video. “We went to the studio, and she’s so humble and so nice. I kid you not. I pulled up to the studio, and she was outside waiting for me,” Ice Spice revealed to Apple Music. “I’m like, ‘Why is Taylor Swift outside?’ Like, ‘Taylor, what are you doing here?’ So she’s great. She’s so funny.”
The pair were together at the Super Bowl supporting Taylor’s boyfriend Travis Kelce.
Haim sisters
The Haim sisters – Este, Danielle and Alana – have been friends with Taylor for years. They featured on No Body, No Crime from Taylor’s Evermore album in December 2020 and appeared in the music video for Bejeweled. They have also been a part of the Eras Tour.
Selena Gomez
The pop singers have become inseparable since first crossing paths when they were each dating a Jonas brother back in 2008 – Taylor was seeing Joe while Selena was linked to Nick. They have cheered each other on at awards nights from the Grammys to the Golden Globes to the MTV Video Music Awards. Selena has shared the stage with Taylor during several of her tours and appeared in Taylor’s Bad Blood music video.
In 2015, when Selena and Taylor shared the stage for a special performance of Taylor’s hit Good For You, there was no hiding their affection. “After nearly eight years of friendship, I just can’t wait to tell our kids we ACTUALLY got to perform in front of thousands of insanely beautiful people together. TWICE!” Selena wrote on Instagram after the performance. “I love you Tay. #bestnightEVER #whatlSlife.” In 2023, Taylor showed her love for her bestie when Selena released her upbeat new single Single Soon. “When your bestie is the bestest,” Taylor wrote on her Instagram story as she reshared a reel originally posted by Selena. “Will be dancing to this forever methinks,” Taylor added.
Blake Lively
The origins of the relationship with Blake Lively date back to Taylor’s tour of Australia in 2015. Taylor and Blake were pictured together meeting koalas and enjoying Queensland during the singer’s 1989 World Tour after Blake had declared herself to be a total “Swiftie”. The pair’s connection has only strengthened since, with Taylor even featuring the children of Blake and her actor husband Ryan Reynolds in her music: their daughter James has a voice cameo in Taylor’s Reputation track Gorgeous, while James, Inez and Betty are all name dropped in Folklore. The children even refer to Taylor as their “aunt” on social media, support each other at big events and attend each others’ parties. Last year we were left in no doubt about their feelings towards each other when Taylor, after winning Favorite Pop Album at the American Music Awards, gave Blake a shout-out. “I want to take a moment to thank someone who directed the music video, I Bet You Think About Me – my beautiful, brilliant friend, my director Blake Lively,” she said. More recently the pair have been spotted out for dinners in New York City and in the stands cheering on Taylor’s NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce. Taylor’s wingwoman at the Super Bowl this week was, you guessed it, Blake Lively.
Gigi Hadid
This has been one of Taylor’s most enduring friendships. They were first spotted together in 2014 at an Oscars party and the following year Gigi was out at Taylor’s Reputation concert in London, along with her other famous pals Martha Hunt, Kendall Jenner, Serena Williams, Karlie Kloss and Cara Delevingne. Gigi has confessed to going to all of Taylor’s concerts whenever she is in the same city. Each year the supermodel wishes her singer bestie a happy birthday and vice versa. When Gigi welcomed her baby girl with now ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik, Taylor sent the little family a satin pink blanket that she had made herself. Gigi told Variety she loved the singer’s music growing up. “An amazing thing about my friendship with Taylor has been that she is a songwriter that I’ve connected to through my childhood into my adult life, and becoming friends has given me an insight into the mind that creates those lyrics. She writes words that people experience but can’t put into words themselves.”
Jack Antonoff
The New Jersey musician, who recently married Margaret Qualley, is one of Taylor’s closest collaborators. Their songs have won numerous awards and the writer/producer features in her videos as well. The multi-talented Antonoff co-produced Taylor’s 2022 album Midnights and co-wrote 11 of the 13 tracks. He has also worked with artists Lorde and Lana Del Rey.
Sophie Turner
Whenever Taylor is out for a girls’ night in New York City, you can bet that actor Sophie is by her side.
Through their recent outings, which include the Game of Thrones star attending NFL games with Taylor who is supporting her man Travis Kelce, it’s clear Taylor is very much Team Turner after she filed for divorce from husband Joe Jonas. For years they have shown their support for each other on social media and at events. Sophie praised Taylor’s Fearless track, Mr Perfectly Fine, written about her relationship with Joe. After they appeared on The Graham Norton Show together in 2019, Sophie admitted to fangirling over the songstress. “She’s a really sweet girl. We’ve met a couple of times before,” she told Extra.
