Oregano House mini market in Meadow Heights rammed by car and set ablaze in arson attack

A car has been rammed into a Lebanese mini market in Melbourne’s north and set alight in the latest arson attack to hit Melbourne.

A car has been driven into a Lebanese mini market in Meadow Heights in a suspected firebombing.

Fire crews arrived to find the vehicle fully alight inside the Oregano House mini market, grocery store and bakery on Baker Court about 5am on Tuesday.

A triple-0 caller reported there were people trapped in accommodation attached to the burning store, but attending firefighters confirmed the premises were empty after a search.

Fire Rescue Victoria brought the blaze under control after about half an hour.

A neighbour, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he had been woken by two loud bangs.

“Before five I heard two loud bangs and thought it was garbage trucks,” he said.

“But then ten minutes later all the fire crews showed up.

“That’s this area though, always a bit of trouble.”

It was unclear on Tuesday morning whether the incident was linked to Melbourne’s ongoing tobacco wars, but the shop reportedly sold “smoking apparatus” along with other items.
