Former Federal Opposition leader Mark Latham has taken aim at a prestigious MCG tradition labelling the move “woke.”

The former Australian Labor Party opposition leader stirred controversy after the MCG added cricketer Annabel Sutherland’s name to the honour board of Australians to have made Test centuries at the MCG.

Ms Sutherland scored a stellar 163 runs in her first innings of the Women’s Ashes Test but Mr Latham was more concerned people might “think it’s her dad.”

“Shouldn’t the Woke add pronouns,” he commented on X.

The MCG responded to dispel any potential confusion over the initials of Sutherland’s first and middle names.

“Her Dad’s name is James which does not start with the letter A. Hope this helps,” they said.

Mr Latham said it was “very confusing”.

“AJ, could be like MC Cowdrey, CG Greenridge or with one of your old patrons, JM Fraser,” he said.

“Very confusing. Needs a pronoun!!!”

The comments were then flooded with support for the MCG’s recognition of the impressive knock.

Ms Sutherland made history to become the first woman added to the honour board on Saturday with teammate Beth Mooney joining her only hours later.
