Former bikie Sam “The Punisher” Abdulrahim has had an amicable phone conversation with new Mongols leadership after he was shot at up to eight times in Saturday’s drive-by ambush.

It can be revealed Abdulrahim, 32, spoke with recently appointed Mongols OMCG sergeant-at-arms Phillip Main on Monday from his hospital bed.

The conversation came just 48 hours after he was shot in a brazen daylight ambush while at a cousin’s funeral in Fawkner.

It is understood relations between the two parties are cordial, despite mounting public speculation the assassination attempt was orchestrated by the Mongols, Abdulrahim’s former club.

The professional boxer received at least three gunshot wounds in the attack.

“There is no beef between Phil and Sam,” a well-placed source said.

“A phone call was made. They are close associates even though Sam left the club in April.”

The Herald Sun understands Abdulrahim has been visited in hospital by bikies who belong to the Mongols and Finks clubs, as well as members of the notorious Hadarra family.

The professional boxer is also aligned with about 40 former Mongols who have recently departed Victorian chapters of the club.

“He doesn’t just have the numbers, he has an army behind him,” a source said.

“If they are shooting Sam who is very well connected, no one is happy. It has upset a lot of people. It has upset a lot of different families.

“They were trying to kill Sam. They weren’t there to tickle him.”

Sources said involving innocent members of the public had gone against the underworld code.

“Carjacking a mum in front of her kid and putting a gun to a lady’s head, you don’t do that,” a source said.

“That is f--king disgusting. That goes against every rule. You don’t do that stuff. It is weak. It is shit game. It is weak, whoever did this is a f--king rat.”

Abdulrahim is said to be “fighting fit” while being treated at the Royal Melbourne hospital for his wounds.

He was visited on Tuesday by mate Toby Mitchell who later on social media posted a screenshot of a Herald Sun report with the caption: “Rest up brother, you will be home in no time.”
