Fake ‘Infridgment’ fines: Frankston MP warns of dodgy scam

Residents in Frankston are being warned about a scam involving fake parking fines, complete with spelling errors and misleading council logos.

The local MP for Frankston has taken to social media to warn the public of a dodgy fake parking fine scheme that is underway in the area.

Paul Edbrooke posted a photo on his facebook of one of the “fines” that a local had found on their car at the free train station carpark.

The fake ticket even had a dead giveaway spelling mistake with “infridgment” branded across the top in capital letters.

It also featured a faded Frankston Council logo, QR code and ridiculously quick turn around due date of less than a week.

Mr Edbrooke said the council was quickly made aware of the fake fines and told the community to ignore them.

“My office has been made aware of fake infringement notices left on the windscreens of cars at the new Frankston commuter carpark,” he posted.

“This carpark is FREE.

“There are NO fees, NO infringements and Frankston City Council do not issue infringement notices at this carpark.

“Hopefully everyone knows not to use the QR code and to pass the word around that this is a scam.”

While Derinya Ward councillor Brad Hill also posted on Facebook telling members of the public to ignore the notices.

“These fake parking “Infridgement” notices are appearing on car windscreens in Frankston,” he said.

“The one reported to me was at the railway station car park, which of course is free parking.

“They are not from the council. It’s a scam. Throw them in the bin.”

At this stage it is not known if anyone has fallen victim to the fake fines.
