A week after pledging to follow federal government advice, Daniel Andrews has deleted his TikTok account, which had almost 110,000 followers.

The Premier last week announced Victoria would adopt advice from the federal government for the Chinese-owned platform to be deleted from all government phones.

Mr Andrews‘ account, which had nearly 110,000 followers, was deleted on Tuesday.

The Premier last week said he also expects that nurses and teachers using government phones will be caught up in the new edict.

Further arrangements about the ban are still unclear.

Mr Andrews, who is a prolific social media user, last week said he was still awaiting the details from the federal government‘s review into the app.

“I’m afraid I can’t give you all the specific details of when and how (it will be enforced), but we will deliver the national framework and what will you find over a period of time, hopefully quite soon, (is) that platform will not be supported and not be operated by any Victorian government device,” he said last Tuesday.

“I can’t speak to the intel and the security advice that sits behind it because I have not been briefed about it.

“The release and the discussion of that security advice will be a matter for the Commonwealth government.”
