Homes under threat from fires at Little Desert National Park and Grampians National Park

Fire authorities have warned that two out of control bushfires are spreading quickly and could reach people’s homes.

An emergency warning was issued for residents in parts of the state’s west on Sunday night as two out-of-control bushfires threatened homes. 

Residents in the Nurcoung region were told to leave immediately as a bushfire at Little Desert National Park continued to travel in a south-easterly direction towards Goroke-Nurcoung Rd.

A Vic Emergency spokesman said on Sunday night the fire was spreading quickly and may affect private properties.

An emergency relief centre has been set up at Hamilton Performing Arts Centre.

It came as emergency crews in North Queensland pleaded with residents to evacuate ahead of predicted record-breaking flooding which was expected to inundate 1700 homes and claimed the life of a woman who fell from an SES boat on Sunday.

More than 1000mm of rain fell between Townsville and Ingham in two days, with more than 1700 homes in “black zones” predicted to be inundated on Monday.

A total of 41 swiftwater rescues were conducted in the 24 hours until 3pm Sunday.
