Brad Battin’s media director has quit, igniting a huge shake up of the Opposition Leader’s office.
Dominic Raff, who took up the role just seven months ago when Mr Battin replaced John Pesutto, has resigned from his position.
It comes just days after horror polling for the Coalition which showed just 38 per cent of Victorians backed the party – five points less than when Mr Battin became leader in December.
The Redbridge poll showed the Allan government would win comfortably if an election was held today, with voters in all demographic groups turning away from the Coalition.
The poll came amid a threat of another legal battle over Mr Pesutto’s career saving $1.55m loan.
It is understood that Mr Raff is leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Mr Battin wished his outgoing media chief all the best on Thursday.
“I’ve had a great relationship with Dom but I understand he’s exploring other opportunities,” he said.
“And we generally wish him all the best.”
In an email to members on Thursday, Mr Battin’s chief of staff Sid Wynen thanked Mr Raff, saying he had put the team in a “strong position” ahead of next year’s election.
“Dominic has been a committed member of the Liberal team, and his service has been invaluable in putting us in a strong position ahead of next year’s election,” he wrote.
“His dedication, professionalism, and tireless work in the Leader’s Office have made a real difference, and we are grateful for all he has contributed during his time with us.”
Mr Raff, a long-time party operative and former Property Council policy and media chief, was the Victorian Liberals fifth media director since 2020.
It comes just four months after Jacinta Allan’s chief of staff Matt Phelan quit as polling showed Labor had sunk to record lows.
Mr Phelan cited personal reasons at the time.
