The wife of alleged cop killer Dezi Freeman has begged her fugitive husband to “call triple zero” and arrange a “surrender plan”— five days after the tragedy unfolded in Porepunkah.

The wife of alleged police killer Dezi Freeman has begged her fugitive husband to hand himself in.

Issuing a statement through her lawyer on Sunday, Amalia Freeman told the media she and her children stood with police, and urged anyone who could be helping Freeman evade capture to contact authorities.

“Please Dezi, if you see or hear this, call 000 and arrange a surrender plan with the police,” she said.

“On behalf of my children and myself, I wish to share our deep sorrow for the loss of the lives of Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart on 26 August 2025.

“We are truly sorry for your loss, and the suffering and grief that the families, friends and colleagues of Detective Leading Senior Constable Thompson and Senior Constable De Waart are now experiencing.

“My children and I grieve for the loss of your loved ones.”

As the search for an “armed and dangerous” Freeman entered its sixth day, Ms Freeman said she and her children did not share the same extremist views as her husband.

She commended the work of the hundreds of officers scouring the high country to locate Freeman, who took off into the bush with several guns after allegedly killing the two officers and wounding a third in Porepunkah on Tuesday morning.

“My children and I respect the important work of Victoria Police and do not hold anti-authority views,” she said.

“We echo the requests of the Victoria Police for the swift and safe conclusion of this tragedy.

“I lend my full support to Victoria Police in their search for my husband and will co-operate with Victoria Police in any way that I can.

“If anyone is harbouring, helping or supporting Dezi, please call 000 immediately and speak with the police.

“If anyone has seen Dezi or knows anything that may help the police to understand his whereabouts, even if it is just a snippet of information, please call 000 immediately.”

Police Minister Anthony Carbines backed calls for Freeman’s surrender, declaring there was “no price for community safety”.

“This armed offender can surrender and bring this to a conclusion, otherwise police will continue to hunt him down,” Mr Carbines said on Sunday.

“No one should question the resoluteness of the police service.

“There is a strain on the community, strain on our police services because people would like to see a dangerous offender brought to justice as soon as possible.”

It comes after police charged a 61-year-old Bright man with a prohibited person possessing an imitation firearm and possessing a drug of dependence after raiding his home on Friday.

He was bailed to appear at the Myrtleford Magistrates Court on October 3.

Porepunkah remained quiet on Sunday as police conducted what have now become routine patrols of the area.

Marked and unmarked police vehicles could be seen travelling in and out of the force’s new staging point at the DEECA site in Ovens.
