A four-day renovation which blew out into a month-long complete kitchen fit-out has forced the owner of Hermit Park Dominos to think outside the box.
Owner of both the Ayr and Hermit Park Dominos, Jason McInnes said his main goal is to keep his staff employed while the store itself is closed.
“It was meant to be a four-day renovation on the cold room, but they kept finding more stuff and now the whole kitchen is getting replaced,” Mr McInnes said.
The builder estimates work will be done by September 6.
Mr McInnes took over the Hermit Park store in August 2022, and has been kept busy by kitchen repairs every since.
The Dominos Pizza truck was delivered from HQ, and now sits in the carpark behind the store.
“Head office gave us the truck to use,” Mr McInnes said.
“It’s different working in a truck. It’s smaller and all the kitchen stuff is at the back.”
The truck is capable of cooking the entire Dominos menu – except for deep crust, extra large crust and sundaes.
“It’s got ovens, a dough mixture, everything,” Mr McInnes said.
“Head office has seven of these trucks, and one was just at the Ekka.”
Mr McInnes said customers were slowly returning after the brief closure.
“We’re trying to keep our same staff, that’s the whole idea behind it,” he said.
“We’re open now, doing the same hours and deliveries.”
Four staff can work side-by-side in the food truck.
