The actor and model recently won Manhunt Australia, the longest running male pageant in the country, and will go up against 40 other nations in the World Final.

Mahoney said he was “honoured” to be chosen to represent his home country.

“When I received the phone call, I was absolutely over the moon,” he said.

“I will give it absolutely everything I can to not just make myself proud but make Australia proud, and get as close as I can to the title.”

The Australian star will be up against international icons, including the UK’s Jamie Clark, and South Korea’s Minjae Kim.

Despite the upcoming challenge, Mahoney said he’ll give his all.

“It’s going to be a big challenge, but I am so eager and I know that I will do a really great job whether I win the title or not,” he said.

Mahoney has been working in the entertainment industry since finishing high school, quickly realising this was the career for him.

“After high school I got accepted into an acting college in Tokyo,” he said.

“When I wasn’t attending classes at the acting college I would go off and do acting jobs.”

Mahoney now has various acting and modelling credits to his name, including a collaboration with Australian swimwear brand Tribe.

While he no longer lives in Townsville, Mahoney keeps the North Queensland capital in his heart.

“All my family is still [in Townsville], so I go back and visit whenever I can,” he said.

Being from North Queensland originally, Mahoney hopes his story can inspire others who started out in regional Australia like him.

“I was born and raised in Townsville and as a teenager I moved to Japan to finish high school there,” he said.

“You only have one life, I don’t want to get to retirement and regret not taking opportunities I had when I was young.”

“Life is too precious just to stay comfortable.”

“You’ve got to take that leap and you never know where it can take you.”
