Townsville night prowler’s alleged lewd act caught on video

A 31-year-old man has faced court after allegedly prowling through Townsville yards late at night with his genitalia on full display. Here’s the latest.

A late-night lurker has been caught on CCTV as he allegedly crept through yards in Townsville’s suburbs with his genitalia on full display.

Walter Gavin James, 31, is facing multiple charges following incidents that allegedly unfolded across Thuringowa and Kirwan between 9.30pm Tuesday and just after midnight on Wednesday.

Police allege the man entered into several yards along Hinchinbrook Drive, Raintree Way, Kern Brothers Drive and Burnda Street and exposed himself.

One of the yards he allegedly entered belonged to a 73-year-old woman who went outside after hearing a knocking on her window.

The woman’s daughter said she was allegedly confronted by a man with a shirt covering his face and his private parts on full display.

Another resident’s CCTV cameras caught a man at 9.40pm the same night in a similar state of undress in a yard on Hinchinbrook Drive.

Police said they took the man into custody just before 1am on Wednesday at a Burnda Street property, bringing the twisted streak to an end.

He was charged with three counts of trespass and two counts of indecent act in any place with intent to insult.

No applications for bail were made while his matters were mentioned briefly in Townsville Magistrates Court on Wednesday. The matters were adjourned until May 12, 2025.
