A group of youths, including kids as young as 13, have been charged after allegedly fleeing the scene of a stolen Hyundai hatchback that crashed into an electricity pole at Alva Beach.
Police said the vehicle collided with a pole on Sandowns St and five occupants were seen fleeing the area on foot around 5.30am on Tuesday.
They were tracked to a nearby caravan park, where they were arrested shortly after.
The Hyundai hatchback had been reported stolen from a Home Hill address on Monday morning.
Among those charged are a 13-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl, and a 17-year-old girl, all from Home Hill, each facing one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle in company. They are due to appear in the Ayr Magistrates Court on January 29.
An 18-year-old man from Home Hill faces more serious charges, including unlawful use of a motor vehicle in company, possessing dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and breaching bail conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 10.
