Subway opens in Upper Ross after delay in construction

A new fast food store is trading in the Upper Ross after an issue connecting the site to power caused a delay in its opening.

The world’s largest single-brand restaurant chain has arrived in the Upper Ross.

But it has been a delayed arrival for the Subway restaurant and drive-through after an issue connecting the site to power during its construction caused a lengthy delay to its opening.

“We had some issues getting power to the site. After that it snowballed getting the trades back to finish. We had to rebook and all the trades were flat out (with other work),” franchisee Peter Marr said.

The store is Peter and Melissa Marr’s seventh Subway in Townsville.

They have been joined for this outlet by Shaun and Gordan McCormack who are also franchisees.

“It’s a big growth area of Townsville. It’s a fair drive to the next Subway store. We saw it as a good opportunity to plan another store,” Mr Marr said.

“We bake all our fresh bread in the store. We use all fresh ingredients, cut everyday.”

The store is expected to employ up to 28 people, mostly young people living in Rasmussen and Kelso.

The store was built as part of a $38m redevelopment of the Riverway Plaza shopping centre which also includes a new KFC restaurant and drive-through.

A new Woolworths supermarket was developed next to an existing store which was demolished to make way for more shops.
