After moving to Victoria and experiencing bad breakouts and rosacea, this beauty therapist decided to take a holistic approach to her skin treatment. Now she has opened up shop in Townsville providing tailor made facials and maximum results.

After 15 years of living in different parts of Australia, Nikki Stein recently made the move back to her hometown and reopened her business Solace Skin Haus, which had its beginnings in Geelong.

“I’ve always been in the beauty industry. I did my certification here in Townsville, my beauty course, but I’ve worked in a lot of different beauty salons, laser clinics and dermatologists,” she said.

“It wasn’t until I moved to Geelong that I encountered problems with my own skin, I started getting really bad breakouts and rosacea so then I turned to more of a holistic style of treating, I saw a naturopath and began treating my skin a little differently than I had in the past.”

Ms Stein describes her work as the middle point between spa facials and clinical skin treatments.

“Before I started my business I had worked in both spas where its relaxing but it wasn’t tailored towards real change in skin and on the other end of the spectrum where it was a really clinical thing but you’re going to get results but the lights are bright and there is no massage and people are wearing gloves.

“I wanted to combine the two and everyone gets up off my bed and just comments on how relaxed they are and how beautiful the treatment was.”

At her Townsville studio Ms Stein conducts holistic skin assessments, provides skin scripts and ‘tailored results-driven facials’ which have quickly gained popularity as she experiences two weeks of appointments being booked out.

“Every treatment is really customisable and we really chat about the people’s skin and talk about their health and lifestyle, gut health and hormones and all those kinds of things so not only do you get recommendations for their skin but they’ll get recommendations for change of lifestyle,” Ms Stein said.

“I also work alongside a naturopath so I have access to functional testing like blood testing and stool testing where they can analyse their results and then we can prescribe practitioner only supplements and herbs and things like that, so we really are looking at the whole picture.”

While Ms Stein’s work prioritises results, she said she didn’t want it to have a clinical feel and ensure that all facials and treatments are relaxing for her clients.

“Especially because I do understand that stress is a major factor in a lot of skin conditions so if they can come and have that bit of a de-stress that’s going to help their skin as well as their physical treatment.

Solace Skin Haus is located inside hairdressing salon the Moksha Room at 4/2 Dibbs Street, Townsville, Queensland 4810.

Ms Stein currently works in the studio on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and conducts online skin consultations throughout the week that provides skin regimes, functional testing and check-in correspondence.
