One lucky mum will enjoy a gourmet breakfast or brunch this Mother’s Day, prepared by Townsville’s own MasterChef star Rhiannon Anderson.

This treat is courtesy of Fairfield Central shopping centre at Idalia, which is hosting a draw to win the chance to treat Mum and her loved ones to a delicious start to her special day.

Since coming runner-up in the 2023 MasterChef series, Rhiannon has devoted a lot of her time to fundraising for ovarian cancer in honour of her mother, Sue, who last her battle with the disease in 2021.

“A lot of what I do is related to my mum, so it will be lovely to do something special for someone else’s mum – they all deserve to be spoilt,” she said.

“I’ll be going to their home, taking over their kitchen and preparing a beautiful breakfast or brunch of their favourite dishes for them and five family or friends.

“I won’t know what their kitchen is like until I get there, and obviously I’ll have to check any dietary requirements, but I’m always up for a challenge!”

Rhiannon said she hasn’t stopped since appearing on MasterChef 2023, with promotions, charity work and more.

A highlight of this year so far was being invited to cook at the Dhaka International Food Carnival in Bangladesh, along with fellow MasterChef contestants Declan Cleary, who came third last year, and 2021 runner-up Pete Campbell.

“It was a fantastic experience – the place was amazing, the food was incredible, and the people were so lovely,” said Rhiannon.

“Their spices are amazing, so vibrant. They make the spices we get in Australia taste like they have no flavour!”

Back home, Rhiannon is dividing her time between her cooking, her family and the business she runs with her husband Dean, as well as occasionally taking part in her beloved sport of water skiing.

To enter to win the Mother’s Day breakfast/brunch shoppers simply need to spend $5 or more in any store at Fairfield Central and fill out the entry form to go into the draw.

The competition opens next on April 22 and will be drawn on May 8, ahead of Mother’s Day on April 12.
