Queensland drug trafficker Yohans Shol sentenced in Townsville District Court after supplying cocaine, meth to people across Gold Coast and Mt Isa

A well-known convicted drug offender and notorious Facebook party host is back behind bars after offering someone a significant amount of cocaine for finding his phone on a night out.

A convicted drug trafficker whose criminal history includes violent home invasions, vicious assaults and significant drug operations has returned to court following drug supply and possession charges across Queensland.

Yohans “Yoyo” Shol appeared in Townsville District Court on Friday morning for his involvement in a major methamphetamine operation two years ago and supplying cocaine to someone who found his phone.

Crown prosecutor Grace Ollason said the 30-year-old who once made headlines for organising and advertising out of control parties on Facebook, was not subject to a sentence order at the time of the offences committed in August 2022 but was on a bail undertaking which included a condition that he had to live outside Townsville.

He spent only five days in the North Queensland town before he and a co-offender organised a “significant” amount of methamphetamine to be transported to Mount Isa via a truck driver, according to the crown.

She said the value of the drugs were not known however the package given to the truck driver was 4-5cm in thickness and wrapped up with it was $400 for the driver for his involvement.

Later that month, Shol offered an unknown person 7 grams of cocaine for his phone which he had lost while on a night out in Surfers Paradise, Ms Ollason said.

“That’s also an actual supply because the pair did arrange to meet and conducted the exchange,” she said.

On August 30 in 2022 the man was searched by police who found 3.48g of testosterone, two mobile phones – one of which he did not provide the pin to and suspicious property such as several watches, a handbag and jewellery at his Gold Coast hotel room, the court was told.

While in custody Shol attempted to source between 90 and 150 strips of Buprenorphine with the goal of supplying them to other prisoners, Ms Ollason said.

She said using the estimated cost of one strip at the time of the offence, it would have been a profit between $23,000 and $38,000 however it’s unknown whether he was successful in supplying it.

Ms Ollason told the court that Shol was dealt with in Supreme Court for a home invasion that involved him using a crowbar and an axe to get information out of someone he thought knew damaged his car.

She also mentioned he was sentenced for consorting with convicted offenders 18 times after being warned not to, among other drug, property and assault charges.

Defence barrister Angus Edwards KC instructed by Owens and Associates said the man who now has three children was now living in Mareeba with his current partner who supported him in court.

He told the court Shol was born in Sudan and exposed to a “great deal of violence” growing up before moving to Australia with his family and completing school in Brisbane.

Mr Edwards said the man has struggled with substance abuse since his 20s which is the motivation behind most of his offending.

“He was living a chaotic and drug-fuelled life,” Mr Edwards said.

He told the court that Shol was originally released on bail into a rehabilitation centre that he spent seven months in.

Judge Brad Farr SC said had Shol been dealt with earlier, he would have been looking at a head sentence of five years jail however explained that actual time in custody was warranted.

“It is quite apparent you are someone in need of continuing supervision and its appropriate you demonstrate that you are someone fit for parole and that’s a matter for the parole board’s consideration,” His Honour said.

Shol pleaded guilty to supplying and possessing drugs, possessing drug-related utensils, breaching bail and failing to give access to an electronic device.

He was sentenced to four years jail, with 109 days of pre-sentence custody being declared as time already served and given a parole eligibility date of February 24, 2025.
