They’ve been a fixture of Townsville’s pizza scene for more than three decades and this widely-loved business is still at the top of their game.

The Townsville Bulletin and Matt Preston recently ran a search for the city’s best pizza and Pizza Riviera was given the resounding nod as top dog.

Frank Guglielmino first opened Pizza Riviera in Heatley in 1989, before expanding into Hermit Park 20 years later.

Mr Guglielmino said he was very happy for his stores to be recognised as the city’s standout after beating top competition.

“We try to maintain a standard and we pride ourselves on selling good food,” Mr Guglielmino said.

“We don’t use cheap ingredients, I always use the better, quality products.

“Naturally the staff are a big part of our success as well. They’re all great.”

Mr Guglielmino has 60 employees on his books across the two stores, keeping him on his toes.

He said he was proud Pizza Riviera was not just surviving but still thriving in an industry which has undergone many changes over the years and is ultra cutthroat.

“I’ve seen many stores come and go, other brands and so forth,” he said.

“It is pretty tough to stay on top of your game but we just try the best we can at all times and keep our standards high.”

Pizza Riviera’s most popular pizza is their barbecue meatlovers, which runs hot out of the ovens in both Heatley and Hermit Park.

“It’s a real Aussie style pizza,” Mr Guglielmino said.

“Of course our supremes are well liked as well.”

As for the most asked question in the pizza world, whether pineapple should go on the Italian delicacy, Mr Guglielmino was emphatic with his response.

“Yeah mate, it does.

“You’ve got to go with the times and give the people what they want. A lot of them want pineapple on their pizza.”

Pizza Riviera joins Otto's Warrina as the second winner in our series in conjunction with Matt Preston looking for the Citie’s best eateries.
