Krispy Kreme is recruiting for more than 70 North Queensland employees to help bring the first drive-through store in Townsville to life.

It’s the franchise’s first stand-alone store in North Queensland, with other locations spread across parts of Brisbane and Gold Coast, and is set to open in April.

North Queenslanders were excited in June 2022 when the first 7-Eleven opened in Townsville, brining Krispy Kreme goodness to the region for the first time.

Before this, people with bags filled to the brim of the beloved doughnut were often seen on flights between Brisbane and Townsville.

Now, it’s just going to get easier to get your hands on the sweet treat.

Krispy Kreme marketing director Aimee Cutajar said Townsville was an easy choice for Queensland’s eighth store.

“We often get a lot of requests to bring Krispy Kreme to Townsville,” she said.

“We’ve actually launched through 7-Eleven more recently in the region, so it will be really good for Townsville locals to have a full experience of the brand.”

“We’re really excited and proud to open the store in the Townsville area.”

While the drive-through is an exciting feature, Ms Cutajar said the star of the show would be the hot light shop experience.

“When the hot lights are on it means we’re making fresh doughnuts that deliver straight off the production line,” she said.

Ms Cutajar said Krispy Kreme has done a variety of community activations and fundraisers in Townsville.

“Over the last few years we’ve helped the community raise about $1.5m and this ranges from local schools and community groups,” she said.

“We did a pop up store a few years ago at Townsville airport where we brought in fresh Krispy Kremes for the day and helped the community raise funds for cyclone Debbie.”

Ms Cutajar said while an opening date hasn’t yet been selected, locals can expect the store’s opening to be a treat.

“We are planning to have a big launch event to open the store, so there’ll be lots of stuff that will be planned for the day,” she said.

“We’ll have giveaways and of course free doughnuts.”

Krispy Kreme is currently in the process of recruiting more than 70 locals to be employed at the North Shore location.
