A man accused of ramming a stolen vehicle into a police car before hitting an officer in the face has had a fresh charge made against him.
Layne Rex Edward Newman was taken into custody in November last year following a dramatic arrest where it is alleged he crashed a stolen Mazda BT50 into a police car in Oonoonba.
Police alleged the 22-year-old attempted to flee the scene and in the process assaulted an officer, who was later transported to Mater Hospital Townsville.
Defence Lawyer Tracy Brown from Resolute legal, said Mr Newman had a fresh charge of stealing made against him, no details about the charge were mentioned.
Ms Brown told the court her office was gathering CCTV footage in relation to the charges of entering a dwelling with intent and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, upon the request of Mr Newman.
She also said they were awaiting instruction from the prosecution in relation to the upgraded charge of grievous bodily harm.
Mr Newman has 11 charges before the court including grievous bodily harm, attempt to enter dwelling, dangerous operation of a vehicle, contravening a direction from police, stealing, unlawful use of a vehicle, unlawful use of a vehicle while in company and wilful damage.
No pleas have been entered.
Mr Newman’s lawyer did not make an application for bail and he was remanded in custody.
Magistrate Cathy McLennan adjourned the charges to March 5.
