A young Townsville woman, who is just months out of jail for stealing cars, has landed back in court after she was caught in a crashed stolen car

A witness spotted 22-year-old Kymberley Anne Curtis in the passenger seat of a stolen car after it collided with a work vehicle on Lindeman Ave in September this year.

Townsville Magistrates Court heard Curtis’s fingerprints were found inside the car, but it is not alleged she was the person who first stole the car.

Officers found two bags with 4g of cannabis and a bong when she was arrested.

Curtis pleaded guilty to multiple charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possessing dangerous drugs, and driving without a licence.

The court was told Curtis was nine months into a two-year suspended sentence, after being ordered to 12 months jail in September 2021, when she committed her latest offending.

Police prosecutor Mark Fenlon said Curtis’s history of unlawful use of a motor vehicle charges meant she needed to be deterred from reoffending.

Her lawyer said Curtis begun using methylamphetamine during a previous relationship and that she wished to care for her sick father upon her release from jail.

Curtis was sentenced to 21 months with her parole release date set for May 16, 2023.

Fifty-one days of presentence custody was declared.

A conviction was recorded on all offences.
