A repeat home invader has found himself on parole, in jail and applying for bail all on the same day.

Joseph Lesley Arnold Hero, 19, was out on parole and wearing a GPS ankle tracker when he went on an alleged crime spree, attempting to enter five buildings and entering a further four dwellings all in one night.

The court heard data from Hero’s ankle tracker placed him at the scene of every alleged crime, and he was soon charged and placed in custody.

The situation echoes the February 2023 Yummies robbery where the group’s ‘getaway driver’ was wearing a GPS ankle tracker that allowed Townsville police to track him.

On Thursday, July 11, Hero and his defence lawyer Fleur Lettice applied for bail, arguing a personal night-time curfew placed on Hero could reduce the risk he posed to the community.

“All but one of these offences occurred after 6pm... most were around midnight and the early hours of the morning,” Ms Lettice said.

Police prosecutor Brandon Woods opposed bail, saying there was an unacceptable risk of Hero continuing to endanger the community if he was released on bail.

Magistrate Richard Lehmann considered both arguments and ultimately pointed to the “extremely strong Crown case” against Hero as a leading reason to deny bail.

Hero was refused bail and will remain in prison as his matter progresses through the legal system.

The case was adjourned to July 30.
