Fire destroys Townsville playground equipment for second time

Shocking video footage shows a fire rip through a children’s playground in Townsville for the second time in as many years.

Fire consumes playground equipment

Police are investigating after a fire ravaged a children’s playground in Townsville on Saturday for the second time in as many years.

Annandale residents woke on Saturday to find the play equipment at Marabou Park, which was destroyed in a fire by criminals last year, had once again been targeted.

One resident said her husband woke at 3.15am to go fishing and saw the fire consume the playground equipment.
Police and fire and emergency services were called out and able to quell the flames.

A police spokeswoman said QFES were able to extinguish the fire and the area has been cordoned off by Townsville City Council workers.

“Investigations are continuing,” she said.
