A man has sadly died after walkers found him collapsed along the steps at Castle Hill.

Paramedics rushed to the scene following reports that a man had collapsed along the steps of the well-known walking track near the intersection of Walker and Blackwood Streets in Townsville City around noon on Monday.

The situation prompted a significant response, with multiple police units and fire and rescue crews quickly attending the location.

Paramedics attempted CPR on the man but he sadly was declared deceased at the scene.

Its understood the man appears to have collapsed after a medical episode.

That section of the walkway was taped off to the public for several hours on Monday as emergency services responded.
