A woman has recalled the horrific moment she ‘lost control’ of her moped was involved with a crash with a bus on Magnetic Island that left her riddled with injures.

Bridget Harvey says she was riding her moped in Nelly Bay and when she “lost control” while travelling up a windy uphill road and veered into an oncoming bus on Friday, June 7.

Paramedics had rushed to the crash scene near the intersection of Arcadia Rd and Magnetic Island Rd just after noon and located Ms Harvey with significant head and leg injuries.

She was flown off the island by rescue helicopter to Townsville University Hospital.

In a GoFundMe campaign set up to support her through recovery, Ms Harvey revealed the impact of the crash had knocked her unconscious.

She said she woke up with a “snapped and twisted” left leg with three broken bone breaks that were repaired with a pole and screws.

She also sustained a broken elbow and some head injuries including three fractures including one in the eye socket, nasal cavity and base of the skull.

“I was lucky that two of the hospitals doctors were on the bus I’d crashed into and were able to assist immediately,” she wrote.

“I am so, so grateful for those of you who have or have wanted to send flowers and gifts, but I don’t need any more treats now and if you do have a couple of fives or tenners to spare, I would love to put it towards my supports and rehabilitation.”

“I have been referred for ongoing rehab from both an orthopaedic standpoint as well as brain injury rehabilitation.”

The Victorian resident said she set up the online fundraiser after it became apparent she would be facing a lot of out of pocket expenses that she wouldn’t be covered for in Queensland.
