Three NQ motorcyclists are preparing to ride to WA as part of the Long Ride for prostate cancer research - and they’ll be the most committed group in the country, travelling 5,200km to reach the finish line.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Australia, and is the second biggest cancer killer of men - just behind lung cancer.

Retired police officer Brett Geiszler will be undertaking the mammoth trip down the East Coast and across the Nullarbor on his Indian Chieftain for his first time ever on the Long Ride.

Fellow first timer Ashley Evans is taking his 2011 Harley Davidson heritage softail which he admits he’s never driven further than Mackay before.

The third member of the group is Mick Marshall who’s ridden in four other Long Rides and is tackling the huge journey on a 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE.

The Long Ride is a fundraising event run by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, and attracts over a hundred keen motorcyclists from across the country, challenging them to ride to a different far-flung corner of Australia each year.

Mr Marshall said last year the final destination was Port Douglas - an easy run for him - but now that it’s Esperance the Townsville riders are officially the ones with the furthest to go.

“We are the most northern participants,” the recently retired Air Force veteran said.

“It’s going to be a very big trip and we have to start conditioning the body now to handle five to six hours on the bike every day.”

The trio will be running a number of sausage sizzles to fundraise for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia before they head off on October 9.

The trio are being supported by Rising Sun Townsville, and will be running a sausage sizzle at the dealership on Bowen Rd Saturday morning, 19 July.
