The actions of a man who stole a roll of plastic mesh was caught on CCTV, a Charters Towers Magistrates Court has heard.
Lloyd John Lavery, 57, pleaded guilty to stealing and trespass charges before Magistrate Viviana Keegan.
Police prosecutor Cassandra Nitz said in October police received a complaint that orange barrier mesh had been stolen from the Charters Towers Pistol Club.
She said CCTV footage from the club from 2.05pm on September 26 showed Lavery arriving in a ute with distinguishing features.
Ms Nitz said that on October 13, police measured the distance between the three star pickets where the orange mesh was located, and found it was approximately 9m.
Then, on October 16 a search warrant was executed at Lavery’s address where the mesh was located.
Ms Nitz said Lavery said he was unaware of the stealing of the mesh from the pistol club grounds, but then during the search of his property he did declare the mesh and it was seized by police.
Defence solicitor Rebecca Hudson said the local grazier offered no excuse for committing the offence.
She said the mesh was recovered and returned to the club.
Magistrate Keegan fined Lavery $400, with no conviction recorded.
