Bureau of Meteorology issue severe heatwave warning for parts of Queensland

A severe heatwave warning has been issued for North Queensland with temperatures expected to reach more than 40 degrees following days of warm weather earlier in the week.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe three-day heatwave warning on Tuesday for parts of Queensland.
The severe weather is expected to bear down on North Queensland from Wednesday through to Friday.
Areas that will be affected include the Peninsula, Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts.
In the North tropical coast, Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts, BOM said temperatures were expected to reach the mid thirties with overnight temperatures in the high teens to the low twenties.
Richmond, Julia Creek and Hughenden are likely to see temps soar past 40 degrees Wednesday and Thursday, with storms also possible.
In Townsville, the maximum temp is forecast to reach 33C for the rest of the week, with showers possible on Sunday.
Rain is also possible for Ingham Saturday and Sunday, with a top of 35C forecast for Thursday and Friday.
For the remaining forecast districts, temperatures are expected to reach the high 30s to low 40s with overnight temperatures expected to reach the mid to high 20s.
Doomadgee, Hughenden, Kowanyama, Richmond and Weipa are likely to be impacted by the severe weather.
BOM has highlighted some safety advice, stating that severe heatwaves can be dangerous for older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
They recommend seeking a place to stay cool and closing windows and blinds in your home during the early stages of the day to keep the heat out.
