Brisbane girl living in Bowen flown to Townsville after savage dog attack

A young girl has been flown to Townsville with severe facial injuries after a horrific dog attack in Bowen.

A young girl has been flown to Townsville with severe facial injuries after a horrific dog attack in Bowen.

A relative said the six-year-old girl, originally from Brisbane, had suffered shocking facial injuries as a result of the attack at a private residence near Bowen State High School at 8.15pm on Friday.

Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed the victim had been taken to Bowen Hospital in a stable condition.

Mackay Hospital and Health Service confirmed that due to the nature of the injuries, the girl had been flown to Townsville University Hospital four hours later.

The relative said the victim had needed two facial reconstruction surgeries and 116 stitches to her “tiny face”, and would likely require further operations.

Townsville Health and Hospital Service said the victim was in a stable condition.

The relative said the dog had been put down.

Whitsunday Regional Council, which investigates dog attacks, has been contacted for comment.
