A new e-scooter company will roll into Townsville, launching 200 new rides to compete against Neuron Mobility.
Beam will tomorrow launch its purple coloured scooters, made of aircraft-grade aluminium frames with a dual braking system and best-in-class battery.
“We are excited to launch Townsville. It is our first foray into Queensland and we believe a perfect community for more transportation options,” Beam’s director of expansion Tom Cooper said.
“We have worked closely with Townsville City Council to tailor our operations to fit local needs for a safe, affordable and fun e-scooter platform.”
Beam e-scooters will be priced at $0.45 a minute which is more expensive than Neuron Mobility’s $0.38 a minute, although there is no unlock fee.
Neuron Mobility launched its scooters in Townsville in September.

Every Beam e-scooter in will be equipped with a helmet and a Bluetooth enabled smart helmet lock, ensuring riders always have a helmet for every ride.
These helmets will be treated with an innovative cleaning treatment that provides long-term hygiene benefits and will help to encourage riders to wear them.
Beam will also offer promotions through its app to support local businesses, with alerts broadcasting specials. Businesses can sign-up at ridebeam.com/booster.
The e-scooter company operates in Adelaide, Canberra, Sydney, New Zealand, Malaysia and South Korea.
