Charters towers renovation goes viral on Tik Tok

A MAN renovating a Charters Towers “crack den” has gone viral on TikTok after posting a first look of the new project.

Nat Redgrave, who had a little more than 300 followers on Monday morning, has parachuted into popularity gaining more than 28,000 followers as of Tuesday afternoon.

Mr Redgrave posted his first video of the house on what he has jokingly dubbed “crack Tok” on Monday morning, showing the totally run-down and overgrown outside of the house.

In the back yard, there is rubbish and appliances everywhere.

Inside is not much better, with Mr Redgrave finding a spoon with a burnt bottom, and a fridge with food still inside - despite the property having no power for some time.

In one video, Mr Redgrave said he paid less than $60,000 for the house, which also had $17,000 worth of unpaid rates on the property when he bought it.

“It’s obviously a lot of mess, but we’ll probably put $70,000 into it,” he said in the video.

“$70,000 worth of renos should pull it up nicely, clean it up a bit out the front.”

The hope is to make about $60,000 in profit.

Mr Redgrave said the property had probably been vacant for some time, but there was potential with a bit of hard work.

Speaking to the Bulletin, Mr Redgrave said it was all about having a laugh and showing off Charters Towers.

Originally from Yepoon, he bought the house in the community with plans to turn it into a functional family home.

Mr Redgrave said he wasn’t expecting the reaction he got, choosing to make the video while he waited for his mate to bring him a coffee on day one of the renovation.

“I’d posted a few random videos of crap before and I had 340 followers that were mainly mates and ransoms,” he said.

“I’m not sure how that video got viral, but last I checked it was at 1.4m views.”

Mr Redgrave, who spent 13 years working in the mining industry, was looking for something new to work on when he bought the home.

He said the response had all been positive - even getting a few drive-by visits from locals.

“Everyone just loves a couple of Aussies having a go,” Mr Redgrave said.

“This is way better than the block, people just wanna see real people doing real s---, having a good time, having a laugh.”

Mr Redgrave said he had already purchased another property in Charters Towers and had plans to revamp it.

He said people from all over the world were commenting about the house renovations.

“I guess people are going to get sick of me if I upload 10 videos a day, but everyone is loving it so far,” Mr Redgrave said.

“We will go for a bit of a ride and see what happens.”
