Townsville police have released additional details about the wild, mass brawl in the city early Sunday morning, as well as a flare up later that evening.

Queensland Police Service confirmed that three people had suffered non-life-threatening injuries over the course of the “major altercation” involving as many as 20 people, which kicked off on Norris Street in Hermit Park at 4.20am and then continued along Ross River Rd in Mundingburra.

“Officers provided first aid to the injured people before they were transported to the Townsville University Hospital for treatment,” she said.

“The group of people are known to each other.”

The spokeswoman said the brawl flared up again at The Avenue, Hermit Park, with police responding to “reports around eight people were involved in a disturbance” at 6.40pm.

“Emergency services attended and a male was treated for a minor injury,” she said.

“At this time, police believe the disturbances are linked and the group of people are known to each other.”

The investigation is ongoing and charges are yet to be laid.

Queensland Ambulance Service said on Sunday that it was called to the first altercation about 4.32am.

A QAS spokeswoman said a male with arm injuries was taken to TUH while a female, also with arm injuries, declined transport.
