September 7: NT Police have set up traffic diversions after a vehicle crashed on a busy section of the Stuart Highway.

A single vehicle crashed near the intersection of Amy Johnson Avenue causing delays in the area just after 12.30pm Saturday.

Police blocked the inbound lane of the road and put diversions in place.

The scene was expected to be cleared by 1.30pm.

Taxi driver’s retaliation to man’s alleged assault ends in injury

September 6: NT Police are investigating an incident that left a man in a serious condition in Casuarina after a taxi driver allegedly retaliated to an assault.

Police allege a 50-year-old man assaulted a taxi driver on Bradshaw Tce about 6.45pm Thursday.

The driver is then alleged to have struck the man in retaliation, causing him to fall backward and hit his head on the road.

The driver left the scene in their taxi while the 50-year-old was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition.

Major Crime Detectives are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to make contact on 131 444, and quote reference P24243415.

No charges have been laid as at Friday afternoon.

Library worker allegedly attacked with pencil

September 6: A man who allegedly attacked a library worker with a pencil has been arrested in Katherine.

An NT Police spokesperson alleged the 36-year-old also pushed the woman before fleeing the scene around 3.10pm.

The spokesperson said the woman suffered minor injuries that required first aid.

They said the man was found and arrested on Katherine Tce and remains in police custody.

The spokesman urged anyone with information relating to the incident to contact police on 131 444.

Police hunt for group of alleged car thieves

September 6: Multiple cars have been stolen across the Top End in a string of alleged overnight crime.

Northern Watch Commander Theo Karamanidas said he was unsure exactly how many vehicles had been stolen between Thursday evening and 2am Friday.

Sergeant Karamanidas said they had been stolen from a range of locations between the airport and Winnellie.

He said Strike Force Trident had recovered five of the vehicles though some were still outstanding.

Sergeant Karamanidas said police had arrested three children in relation to the alleged crime spree but several more individuals remained on the run.

He said Strike Force Trident continued to investigate the incidents as of 6am Friday.

Woman punched in head during alleged Top End park attack

September 5: A man who allegedly resisted police during his arrest has been hit with five charges after he allegedly punched a woman in the head.

Northern Watch Commander Theo Karamanidas alleged the man seriously assaulted a woman in Woodroffe Park about 3.40am Thursday.

Sergeant Karamanidas said the man allegedly left the scene before police arrived but was found “around the corner”.

He said the woman was left with bruising after the alleged assault.

He said when a police member tried to arrest him, the man allegedly resisted arrest and punched them in the head.

Sergeant Karamanidas said the man was eventually “overpowered” and taken into custody.

He was charged with breach of a suspended sentence, breach of a DVO, aggravated assault, assault police, and resist arrest.

Break-ins and burglaries: Police investigate spate of weekend crime

September 2: Police are investigating two aggravated robberies and a burglary in the Top End after a spate of crime at the weekend.

A NT Police spokesperson on Monday said a 30-year-old man had been arrested in relation to an alleged robbery in the Darwin CBD.

The spokesperson said the man allegedly threatened a fast food employee with an edged weapon in the Smith St restaurant before fleeing the scene about 6am Saturday.

They said investigations were continuing and the man was expected to be charged on Monday afternoon.

In a separate incident, a group of boys allegedly entered a Katherine service station about 3am the same day.

The spokesperson alleged one of the children was holding an edged weapon.

They said the group allegedly damaged the property and fled, returning a second time and stealing a “large quantity of items”.

The spokesperson said two men allegedly stole a “substantial” amount of alcohol from a licensed premises on Leanyer Dr during a third incident in Leanyer on Sunday morning.

They said the alleged incident occurred about 3.20am.

Police are urging anyone with information relating to any of the three incidents to make contact on 131 444.
