The exciting Tennessee Boy has bookended the feature two-year-old program for north Queensland in 2020.

The brown gelding, by Spill The Beans from Tennessee Red, started his career with a bang and ended the season with victory in the time-honoured Northern Classic QTIS 2YO Plate (1200m) on Thursday afternoon at Cluden Park.

Stablemate Higher Realm was all the rage leading into NQ’s richest race for the youngsters but Tennessee Boy showed his class, ridden by leading hoop Wanderson D’Avila down the outside.

Higher Realm was forced to look for an inside run as Tennessee Boy finished over the top.

Tennessee Boy started his career with a stylish win in the Pallarenda Stakes and added the famous Northern Classic to his resume on Thursday.

Part-owner Chris Jorgensen said the Tolga Wizard Wanderson gave Tennessee Boy a great run in behind in what was “a masterclass of riding”.

“The Tolga Wizard had a huge amount of confidence is how he reckon he could get the best out of Tennessee Boy, he gave the horse a great run in behind and made sure to take any excuse of been beaten out of the race, was a master class of riding,” Jorgensen said.

Roy Chillemi trained an early double on Thursday.
