A “long term community dispute” is the reason why extra NT Police officers have been coming to one Territory remote community over a span over five days.

On Tuesday, a NT police spokesman confirmed Ti Tree police have been in Willowra over the last five days responding to “property damage” “stemming from a long term community dispute”.

The officers visited the community between July 17 and 21, with the spokesman providing little other detail.

“Investigations remain ongoing,” the spokesman said.

An NT Health spokesman said the Willowra clinic was still open and staff were providing primary health care and emergency services.

“The safety of NT Health remote primary health workers is paramount and NT Health does everything it can to protect the health and safety of its workforce,” the spokesman said.

“A safe and supportive working environment is essential for all healthcare workers to be able to provide quality care to the community.

“We continue to work with the community to increase safety across NT Health facilities, including remote health centres.”

Questions were sent to the Department of Education asking if the school is still open.

This masthead did not receive a reply by deadline.

Willowra is located 338km northwest of Alice Springs and has a population of 222, according to the 2021 census.
