COMMUTERS in Adelaide have had a horror morning with a burst water main on Greenhill Road at Parkside, adding to the pain of the Clipsal 500 road closures.
A large, water-filled hole formed in the road as bitumen gave way at the scene of the major burst on Friday morning.
Water gushed over Greenhill Road from the burst, between Unley Rd and Hutt St, shortly after 5am.
Eastbound traffic was swiftly restricted to one lane, down from three, and remains so as road crews mop up and make repairs.
The water also flooded into part of the southern parklands, turning it into a billabong before the flow was cut off.
SA Water said excavation works are underway but traffic restrictions will remain until the road is repaired.

It comes as multiple roads in the city’s inner-east remain closed or restricted during the V8 Supercars.
A two-car crash in Norwood at the intersection of Kensington Rd and Portrush Rd also added to commuter woes this morning.
East-west traffic is already struggling this week with the closure of Bartels Rd and Wakefield Rd, which cut through the eastern parklands.
Meanwhile Fullarton Rd is restricted to one lane both ways while East Tce is closed in parts.
