The future looks very bright for hockey in the Far North after eight players represented the Queensland state sides in the National Carnival in Perth.

Local club Saints had four players, while Brothers and Souths had two players represent the state at the under 14s competition.

Queensland won silver in the girls, going down in the golden goal after levelling things 2-2 in shootouts.

Far North performance manager Jasper Pflaum said it shows hockey is in a great position for the future.

“To have such talented players come from our region to represent us is really great to see,” Pflaum said.

“It will help our hockey talent continue to grow because if you are playing against people who are better than you, you naturally get better.

“But I think it just shows that we have such untapped potential and talent up here in our region.

“These kids are just 14, so they are going to get better and they will help others around them get better as well.

“I am looking forward to seeing these players develop and our competitions develop in the years to come.”
