The ending to the movie Witness for the Prosecution
This is a little complicated - Agatha Christie didn't do simple - but basically, Leonard DID kill the widow and his wife Christine testifies for the prosecution that he admitted to the murder to her.
But a series of letters handed anonymously to Sir Wilfrid attest to an affair between Christine and a man named Max, and therefore the jury doesn’t believe her testimony and acquits Leonard.
After the courtroom is cleared, Christine says her husband did commit the murder and she forged the letters so the jury wouldn’t trust her, saying they wouldn’t have believed a wife testifying for a husband. She's still in love with him and wants to save his life. Leonard then reveals he’s met a younger woman, and is leaving Christine, and she stabs him. Look, like I said, Agatha Christie loved a plot twist or three.
