There’s a new way to file and understand your croc insurance claims — but it’s far easier and simpler than ever before. Find out how the company has done it.

When Jasmin Flori-Hess, the chief executive and founder of tech company Raindrop, first started her business about two years ago, most people laughed at her.

You can’t set up a tech business here, people told her. You have to do it in Sydney, or Brisbane, or even Los Angeles – anywhere but Darwin.

But she knew not to listen to the naysayers; she was here to stay, and the entrepreneur has since reaped the rewards of that decision.

Supported by the Northern Territory Government’s innovation program, which provides grant funding and advice to help businesses commercialise their innovation, Ms Flori-Hess’ company Raindrop is now set to transform the insurance sector using an AI-powered platform.

It was developed by a team of insurance professionals and tech innovators who formed Raindrop to read, understand and translate insurance policies into simple language non-insurance gurus could understand.

Co-located at The Array in Darwin City, Raindrop is also aimed at saving brokers, underwriters and clients time and providing clarity to usually confusing documents.

Ms Flori-Hess said the business could help add to the local economy – especially by way of jobs in the tech industry.

“We’re committed to building a team of exceptional talent right here in the Territory,” she said.

“We’re proving that you don’t have to leave Darwin to pursue a fulfilling tech career, especially in AI.”

Ms Flori-Hess said while she and Raindrop were presently focused on insurance, there was always the potential for future avenues with the technology.

In true Territory fashion, Ms Flori-Hess said it was croc insurance that inspired her to start her business.

“That’s how my idea started,” she said, later joking there was not enough croc insurance in the Top End.

“I wanted to know about it.”

Five Territory businesses will share $136,734 in funding under the recent innovation program grant round.

Other recipients include SoI Intelligent Classroom Solutions, BioReed Marine Habitat Enhancement, Haneki and AgriHub Co.

Applications for the innovation program are now open and close April 30, 2025.
