Darwin is without a doubt one of Australia’s great multicultural food cities — and this year’s Darwin Festival is set to show punters exactly why.
The festival, which will be held from August 7-24, will feature its largest Taste of Darwin program yet – doubling in size to six events from the previous three.
Of the new events, two were announced Friday.
The first being a City Cocktail Experience, in which guests can choose between a glitzy 1920s-style bar hop and a wild tropical bar adventure.
The second, a Gloom and Gourmet Dinner – a dark feast that will transform Parap Fine Foods into a red-lit, moody banquet hall with performers belting out eerie murder ballads.
Key beverage suppliers this year are Alice Springs Brewing Co. and Darwin’s Willing Distillery, which will both deliver award-winning, locally crafted drinks that celebrate the Northern Territory.
Legendary chef Jimmy Shu’s Hanuman restaurant will return to the festival after four years of absence, and the city’s newest eatery, Flora’s Temper Mexicantina, will make its festival debut.
Taste of Darwin curator Neville Pantazis said each event would offer something unexpected and exclusive.
“Darwin’s food and bar scene is vibrant, diverse and truly multicultural. We’re serving up fresh, fun, and unforgettable experiences that celebrate the essence of Australia’s northernmost capital,” Pantazis said.
The festival’s artistic direction Kate Fell said she was excited to bring back old events and offer new ones.
“Last year’s Taste of Darwin events were a huge hit and sold out fast, so we’re excited to not only bring them back but double the offering with truly unique experiences that showcase the spirit of Darwin,” Ms Kate Fell said.
A Taste of Darwin is supported by Hospitality NT.
Darwin Festival, the Gold Winner at the national Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in 2024, will release its full program of events next month.
Darwin Festival is supported by the NT Government through the NT Major Events Company and City of Darwin.
