A Sydney-based property developer hopes to complete a major $45m retail precinct at Kingston by Christmas 2025, promising more than 1200 new job opportunities for the booming region.
Tipalea Partners, a private equity property and investment group, has lodged a development application with the Kingborough Council for its proposed 7500 sq/m Spring Farm Village shopping centre, which would be located opposite the Bunnings Warehouse on the Channel Hwy.
Tipalea CEO, Scott Spanton, said he was “hopeful” the developer would be granted the necessary approvals by May this year, allowing for construction to begin in “mid-to-late 2024”, with an opening date targeted before Christmas 2025.
“Tipalea has a reputation for delivering premium retail centres that transform regions and unlock both greater amenity and competitive pricing for local communities,” he said.
“Spring Farm Village is set to redefine everyday convenience in Kingston, and we are eager to appoint a builder and get construction underway.”
Designed by i2C Architects, the development would include the largest Coles supermarket in the region, as well as a Chemist Warehouse superstore and 14 additional specialty retailers, servicing growing retail demand in the municipality.
It will boast a full solar array, electric vehicle charging stations, free Wi-Fi, cloud-based CCTV, and 350 carparking spaces, with dedicated bays for seniors and people with disability.
Kingborough has a population of about 41,000 people and is one of the fastest-growing regions in Tasmania. From 2016 to 2021, its population increased by 11.8 per cent (4238 people), representing an average annual population change of 2.3 per cent per year over the period.
Residential growth has been particularly pronounced in Kingston in recent years, bolstered by subdivision developments like Kings Quarter and Spring Farm Estate, the latter of which is situated immediately north of Tipalea’s proposed development site.
Spring Farm Village would be Tipalea’s sixth major development in Tasmania in the space of 15 years and would add to the mix of retail hubs at Kingston, which already includes the Channel Court Shopping Centre, Kingston Plaza, and Kingston Town Shopping Centre.
Tipalea has delivered the successful Glebe Hill Village retail centre at Howrah and is also planning an 8000 sq/m shopping complex in Devonport.
