If you’re tired of the weather whiplash in Tasmania, don’t expect it to change anytime soon.
From chilly conditions bringing snow to parts of the state to 26 degree days, April has so far been up and down on the weather front.
Next week, Tasmania will have a warmer than average week, weather bureau meteorologist Matthew Thomas said.
“We’re looking at above average temperatures for much of the next week,” he said.
“And an autumnal pattern driven by fairly slow moving high pressure system.
“We’re not seeing that hot air flushed out very quickly and so what we’re experiencing in Tasmania is probably more breaks in that.”
Thursday was forecast for 25 in Hobart, while Launceston could threaten a record with conditions predicted to reach 26 on Sunday.
Mr Thomas said the hottest day for Launceston in April was 28 back in 1985.
Hobart averages 17 degrees in April, so a 25 degree day is eight degrees warmer than the usual temperature.
The average for Launceston in April is 22.5 degrees.
But frosty mornings are to be expected through April as the temperatures continue to jump around.
“We’re gradually cooling off,” Mr Thomas said.
“It’s one of those things, it’s not an uncommon pattern for this time of year.”
Some areas were reaching zero degrees overnight just this week like Cressy and Upper Derwent Valley.
Mr Thomas said some cooler weather can be expected sometime in April but for next week, it’ll be warmer than average.
