Parcel posted from Victoria containing meth seized in Tas

June 18, 4pm: Police allege half a kilo of drugs was posted by mail from Victoria to Tasmania.

Officers claim the parcel was an alleged attempt to unlawfully import the controlled substance of methylamphetamine, also known as ice.

Members of the Northern Drugs and Firearms Unit intercepted the parcel.

Police said the drugs were seized at Pipers River on Monday and have subsequently arrested, charged and detained a 38-year-old Underwood man.

Officers said the drugs seized was approximately 500g, “and had the potential to cause significant harm to the Tasmanian community”.
