Senior resignations spark leadership shakeup at Shooters Fishers and Farmers party

A stadium dispute is believed to have been the reason behind the Shooters Fishers and Farmers’ leadership spill, with the party chair of nine years among those walking away.

The Shooters Fishers and Farmers party is set to undergo a leadership shakeup after two senior figures announced their departure.

A special general meeting will be held on December 7 to elect a new executive following the resignations of SFF party chair Adrian Pickin and vice chair Michal Frydrych.

It’s understood their resignations came largely as a result of MP Carlo Di Falco’s shifted stance on the Macquarie Point stadium.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mr Di Falco thanked Mr Pickin and Mr Frydrych, and acknowledged “a difference in policy and election commitments”.

“Democracies are about challenging ideas and robust discussions,” he said.

“We should not be afraid to debate respectfully and sometimes agree to disagree.

“Ultimately we (need) to move forward and establish a stronger executive.”

Acting chair and founding member Wayne Turale maintained Mr Di Falco had the full support of the party.

“We are behind him 100 per cent,” he said.

“Our executive is now full with two new experienced and respected members of the community.

“It is an exciting time at SFF, our membership is growing and we endeavour to grow our seats in parliament to solidify our position as the fourth party in Tasmania”.

Mr Di Falco added: “I will not always get it right, there isn’t a blueprint on being a politician.

“What I can commit to is, I will do my best for my electorate of Lyons and the people of Tasmania.”

Mr Pickin had served as the party chair for four years before announcing his resignation on November 14.
