About $5m in funding will target 18 of the state’s crash hot spots as part of a campaign to bring down Tasmania’s high road death toll.
The projects were announced on Friday as part of the Australian Government’s 2025-26 Black Spot Program, which funds road safety upgrades like traffic lights, safety barriers, pedestrian crossings and roundabouts.
Federal Member for Franklin Julie Collins MP was in Lindisfarne to make the announcement, detailing the projects recommended by the Black Spot Consultative Panel in Tasmania.
“Every death on our roads is a tragedy that could have been avoided,” she said.
“Funding the delivery of these upgrades means more money to prioritise safety on our local roads and less pressure on local ratepayers.”
Ms Collins said this year’s Black Spot Program funding was part of a proactive national response to worsening road death and serious injury tolls across Australia.
Tasmanian Senator Carol Brown said the Black Spot Program was crucial in its involvement of community members to determine black spots.
“The great thing about the Black Spot Program is the community is encouraged to get involved,” she said.

RACT’s Head of Advocacy Mel Percival welcomed the funding and commended the new projects.
“Targeted investments in our road network from all levels of Government are critical to reduce motor vehicle deaths and serious injuries, which remain far too high,” she said.
“Safer roads means safer people.”
