The chances of the government’s stadium proposal passing the Legislative Council have been given a boost, with a key independent declaring her support.
Appearing on ABC Radio this morning, Member for Elwick Bec Thomas said she had offered the government her support for the project on the condition they implement a series of safeguards around design, costs and commitment to local sport.
Her announcement comes ahead of today’s Legislative Council debate on the stadium order.
The Upper House has 15 members including its president, Labor’s Craig Farrell.
An analysis of previous statements by members reveals the government needs the votes of two of four undeclared independents to prevail.
If the vote is tied, convention is the president votes against the motion.
Building the $1.13bn stadium is a condition of the AFL team bid.
