UPDATE, 4.55PM: Hobart City Council says the issue has now been resolved and parking metres are fully operational again.

EARLIER: Technical issues are plaguing parking metres across Hobart as the city council scrambles to resolve the problem with its vendor.

It comes after reports on Monday afternoon of people struggling to pay for parking in the state capital.

Hobart City Council CEO Michael Stretton said the council was experiencing a service disruption that was impacting its on-street parking equipment and “resulting in transaction failures at CBD parking machines”.

“This is an Australia-wide issue with our vendor,” he said.

“We are awaiting a response from the vendor regarding how long it will take to fix the problem.

“Please note that this issue only affects the machines and not the EasyPark app, which remains fully operational.”

The vendor providing parking technology in Hobart is APARC, which is headquartered in Sydney.

Mr Stretton urged Hobartians to only park for the allotted times for each given parking space while the issues were still present.

“Parking spaces will still be monitored manually, and infringement notices will be issued for overstays,” he said.

“We appreciate your patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

APARC has been contacted for comment.
