The Hobart Hurricanes are set to break its membership record for next season after its historic first BBL title, as it announced a statewide tour of the T20 trophy.

Merchandise is also flying out of the door after the team’s success on the national stage.

A crowd of 15,706 filled Ninja Stadium to watch the Canes beat the Sydney Thunder for the BBL final.

The following day, thousands showed up to congratulate the team at Kangaroo Bay.

Cricket Tasmania Marketing General Manager Shayne Wicks said demand for all things Hurricanes was immense.

“At our fan day, we sold $4000 of merch in three hours. The website’s been going crazy with inquiries and purchases,” Mr Wicks said.

“Fan interest for membership next year has been strong as well, so we’ve set up a page where you can pledge your membership for next year, and you’ll get a discount off your membership.”

Mr Wicks said extra merch had been ordered.

“We’ve ordered 1500 posters this morning, and we’re about to restock our shelves here at Ninja Stadium as well with additional merch.

“We can’t get it quick enough.”

Particular items had been selling well.

“Player shirts are the most popular, so the actual replica shirts. There’s lots of interest in hats and caps; just basically anything purple,” Mr Wicks said.

It is also hoped that the success of the hurricanes would result in more people becoming members.

“We have over 4000 Hurricanes members currently – which is up on last year – which is great. We want to get to 5000 or 6000 members,” Mr Wicks said.

He said there were many benefits to being a Hurricanes member.

“You can get a guaranteed seat at Ninja Stadium; you can get a fulfilment pack as well as well, so with all the bits and pieces – scarfs, key rings – and you get opportunities for fan-only events and exclusive discounts for membership.”

Mr Wicks said the club would be embarking on a statewide trophy tour.

“We want to take this success to the whole state.

“We just want as many people to enjoy this success, to see the trophy, and just to ride this wave of emotion because it’s a historic moment for Tasmania – our first national BBL trophy – on the back of what the JackJumpers did last year.”

More details on the trophy tour are expected to be announced later in the week.
